SOUNDPATHS: MOSTON, HARPURHEY & CHARLESTOWN
A musical pathway through the parks and along the streets of Moston, Harpurhey & Charlestown
We have created a route that starts and finishes at the entrance to FC United on Lightbowne Road and passes through Broadhurst Park, along Kenyon Lane and Moston Lane and through Boggart Hole Clough.
The route is now transformed into a musical journey - a Sound Path. Composer Yoni Collier and app developers Echoes.xyz, with the help of local musicians, sound artists and members of the Moston and Harpurhey community, have produced a musical score inside an app that plays music, sounds and voices specific to your location.
Sounds and voices were collected and recorded by the people of Moston, Harpurhey & Charlestown with some musical and sonic contributions from local artists J. Chambers, Hannah Ashcroft and Markus Hetheier.
The app launched in April 2020, as part of MINDSCAPES.
MINDSCAPES - a project that explores the impact that our environment has on our mental wellbeing. Working with SICK! Festival and supported by Dutch Culture and The Kingdom of The Netherlands, Manchester music charity Brighter Sound has commissioned Dutch composer Yoni Collier to compose the music and bring together the recorded sounds and voices collected and recorded by the people Moston and Harpurhey.
Composer / Producer / Sound Artist
Yoni Collier is a sound artist, performer, composer and producer. He has been signed to numerous independent and major labels. A former member of Heads We Dance, Deuce & Charger and Lone Wolf, he has performed at venues and festivals across the UK and Europe. His music has featured on many TV shows and films. He is currently working towards a practice-based PhD, examining how location-based recording, musical performance and production can be used as tools for examining artistic practice, landscape and history.

Our environment. Our mental health. Our collaboration. Manchester & The Netherlands.
Soundpaths is part of MINDSCAPES; a collaboration between cultural institutions in Manchester and The Netherlands. This two-year programme challenges artists to explore the ways in which our surroundings can be a cause of social alienation, anxiety and depression, but also, how we can find solace and support in the world around us.
